A preseason basketball tournament among women’s teams, dedicated to the memory of Yuri Perminov, has concluded in Chelyabinsk, with UMMC-Junior taking the win.   

The young “Foxes” defeated Higher League teams Metallurg (66-61) and Slavyanka-CHKPZ (72-70), and in the final, triumphed over their Super League rivals Samara-2 with a score of 85-71.

UMMC-Junior head coach Elena Vasilievna Kuzmina shared her impressions of the tournament:

“The overall impression of the tournament is positive. We approached it with a fighting spirit and gave our all. Of course, there were some downsides, but we will work hard to correct our mistakes.”

– How do you assess the players’ readiness for the 2025–26 season?

“In terms of preparation for the new season, the team had a productive preseason training camp — the girls are in good physical shape and are now building their game rhythm.”

– What can you say about the newcomers to the team?

“Newcomer Viktoria Remizova has integrated well into the team; her effort and work are noticeable. I would also like to mention some of our younger players — in fact, our entire team is quite young: Sofya Maltseva and Alina Nemirova also performed very well. A bit of good news — Marina Solovyeva completed the training camp with the team and is back on the court after her rehabilitation. We strive to give young players game time and, when possible, help them adapt to playing ‘adult’ basketball. Right now, we are working hard to prepare for the Russian Cup, which will take place on September 15.”     

The team’s Super League campaign for the 2025-26 season will begin on October 4 in Vidnoje. There, the juniors will play against the local team, Sparta & K-2.
