Sport without borders: Basketball Club UMMC and Avtomobilist hold a masterclass for children with Down syndrome
Basketball Club UMMC and the Hockey Club Avtomobilist joined forces to give special children an unforgettable day of sports. A masterclass led by professional athletes Anastasiia Shilova and Daniil Karpovich for the students of the “Sunny Children” center demonstrated the importance of inclusion and the promotion of adaptive sports in our country.
The children started with an active warm-up conducted by UMMC forward Anastasiia Shilova and the team's strength and conditioning coach Alexandr Lisichkin. Afterward, participants enjoyed engaging ball exercises aimed at improving agility and coordination. Under the guidance of basketball players, the children learned how to hold the ball correctly, pass, and even score baskets.
UMMC forward Anastasiia Shilova:
- “It's no coincidence that the organization is called “Sunny Children”! These kids are so positive, always smiling, and their energy is incredibly uplifting. It was amazing to see how eagerly and passionately they performed every exercise, giving it their all. I know they come to our games and cheer us on, and we, in turn, will always support them.”
The final stage of the event featured stretching exercises, conducted by Avtomobilist defenseman Daniil Karpovich. These activities not only energized the kids but also boosted their confidence.

- “These kids are great - so kind and full of smiles! They gave their best during the exercises and even promised to incorporate them into their own training. I hope that today Avtomobilist gained some new young fans!”
The key aspect of the event was the atmosphere, where every child felt like part of a team. The participants, their parents, and even the athletes themselves were delighted by how sports bring people together. Supporting such initiatives is an important step toward creating an inclusive environment where sports opportunities are accessible to all.
